hello

Intersect Psychology is a service I began after working for more than two decades in the NHS.

Going back to grassroots, I aim to deliver the service I was trained to; creative and holistic assessment of psychological needs, followed by an offer of the therapy that fits the problem best, and to help for as long as someone needs it.

If you have never before sought help for your mental health and feel unsure or overwhelmed, read this. I hope it helps - but if you have more questions, just ask.

Having trust in your therapist’s qualifications, experience and approach is essential before you allow someone to work with you at your most vulnerable. As such, I have included all the information you might need to check my credentials in the qualifications and experience section, as well as giving you a flavour of the way I work in this section.

It is helpful to ‘meet’ before deciding if a therapist might be the right fit for you – I prefer to do this via video call, but can arrange a phone call if you prefer. The initial (free) consultation would be for 10-15 minutes, just to get a sense of each other.

All clinical psychologists are trained to work with a wide range of difficulties but over the years, we tend to gain particular expertise in one area.  Mine is the interface between physical and mental health, as you will see below; but I can help with most emotional difficulties an adult might experience. Feel free to get in touch and ask.

I have loved working with hundreds of people over the years attending GP practices and hospital-based services for different health issues and needing psychological support (e.g cystic fibrosis, chronic pain, cancer, COPD, sexual health & HIV and trans healthcare). I have also loved working with healthcare providers such as doctors, nurses, physios, dietitians and pharmacists; supporting essential healthcare staff positively affects compassionate care and holds up the NHS.

My work is influenced by the understanding there are social determinants of physical and mental health. In other words, when I meet a person in distress, I aim to acknowledge all potential influences on that distress (e.g. cultural, political, personal) rather than reducing the problem, for example, to just a ‘thinking pattern’.

Experienced clinical psychologists will be able to understand and work with difficulties on a deeper level, requiring complex formulation and being able to draw from different types of therapy. I integrate aspects of the following therapies into my work:
CFT, ACT, Narrative therapy, ISTDP and CBT. I consider myself culturally competent and understand the nuances of intersectionality and its impact on mental health.
